The Banyan Tree Project
The Banyan Tree is a community art project centered around a miniature banyan tree. The project creates spaces for comfort and outreach during an isolationist time such as our's. Through the medium of storytelling the tree invites individuals to share their personal narratives through oral, visual and literary arts. The project is aimed at nurturing a feeling of empathy, kinship, interconnectedness and belonging.
A 6’ x 5’ sculpture of a Banyan Tree is installed in different outdoor and indoor spaces. Each installation carries a theme based on the space and stories 'told' are facilitated through prompts which evoke this theme. The stories told around the Banyan Tree installation are documented through the written word and through videography on this page.
